The shoreline is represented as a hybrid reference line that integrates geomorphic and anthropogenic controls on shoreline position. In unmodified areas, the shoreline is delineated at the approximate location of the ordinary high-water mark (OHWM). In areas where OHWM could not be identified, along rocky shores and embayments, shoreline was delineated at the approximate location of mean higher high water (MHHW) or at the potential tidally influenced extent (50% tidal exceedance elevation), respectively. In areas where human-built features modify the shoreline and alter sediment transport processes, the reference line is mapped at the toe (lowest seaward extent) of the modification. Shoreline modifications are human developments that impede natural beach and tidal processes along the shore. These include, but are not limited to, shoreline armor, boat ramps, levees, and shoreline-adjacent buildings. Overwater structures are evaluated based on their influence on sediment transport. Structures supported by pilings that are sufficiently dense to obscure through-structure visibility in on-the-water imagery are interpreted as restricting sediment movement and are therefore treated as shoreline modifications, with the reference line mapped at their seaward edge. In contrast, structures that allow clear visibility beneath them are considered permeable to sediment transport; in these cases, the shoreline is mapped landward of the structure at the approximate location of the OHWM. Attributes included with the shoreline reference line describe the presence and characteristics of shoreline modifications. These include the type of modification, the material composition of the modification, and the elevation of the modification relative to mean higher high water (MHHW). Additional attributes quantify mapping uncertainty (low, medium, high), including confidence in the presence and classification of shoreline modifications and the positional confidence of the mapped features. This hybrid mapping approach is intended to provide a consistent and process-informed representation of the shoreline position that reflects both natural geomorphic conditions and the functional footprint of human modifications.</span></span></p></idAbs>
